Important information relating to changes to Club Sapphire Sponsorship
The Board of Club Sapphire is planning to implement a new system relating to sponsorship applications, commencing from the upcoming financial year. The objective of this change is to provide for a more equitable allocation of sponsorship funds to the many sponsorship applicants. The new system is not aimed at reducing the overall sponsorship budget of Club Sapphire.
The legislation that governs ClubGrants, divides sponsorship into two different categories.
Category 1 sponsorships are for projects and/or services that contribute to the welfare and broader social fabric of the local community, and are aimed at improving the living standards of low income and disadvantaged people.
Category 2 sponsorships are generally allocated to community development and support activities such as sport.
Category 1 applications are considered once per year by the Bega Valley ClubGrants committee and cheques are issued in August to the successful applicants. We are not proposing any change to this system.
However, ClubGrants Category 2 applications are currently considered by the Board of Club Sapphire on a monthly basis. This more ad hoc system makes it more difficult to compare the relative merits of the various applications received throughout the year and does not always ensure the available sponsorship funds are fairly allocated to the most deserving applicants.
With this in mind, from 1 July 2015, ClubGrants Category 2 applications for monetary support will be considered by the Board only twice per year, in September and March. Sponsorship applications will close on 1 March and 1 September annually and any applications received by the Club in the six months leading up to that date will be considered by the Board at the first Board meeting after each of those dates.
An additional change to the current system will require all applications to now be accompanied by a completed standard Sponsorship Application form (blank copies will be available from the Club and on the Club's website). Please find enclosed a copy of the new application form.
Please also find enclosed a copy of a form required to be submitted by last year's recipients of sponsorship from Club Sapphire of $500 or more. Under the legislation that governs ClubGrants, sponsorship cannot be provided to past recipients of sponsorship if this form has not been submitted to the Club.
